Offer specific help
Instead of saying "let me know how I can help," offer two or three concrete options. That removes work from the person who is already overwhelmed.
- Reviewing a resume or LinkedIn profile.
- Making a warm introduction.
- Sending relevant openings once a week.
- Taking a walk or having coffee without turning it into a strategy session.
Keep checking in
Many people receive a wave of support on the day of the layoff and then silence after that. A short check-in a week later can mean more than a long message on day one.
Respect their pace
Some people want to move immediately. Others need time to grieve, rest, or recover from burnout. Good support leaves room for both.
A small daily support layer
Next Chapter Notes can sit alongside practical job-search help by sending one supportive SMS per day during the emotional recovery and rebuilding process.
